We recently held a charity evening for clients, friends and family at Oakham Castle to raise funds for the Harley Staples Cancer Trust.
The Harley Staples Cancer Trust provides much-needed breaks for families whose children have cancer, in either a smart caravan on the Norfolk coast, or a luxury lodge in the heart of Rutland.
For these families this gives them a break from the stresses of treatment. It even puts smiles back on their faces again while making some precious memories together.
The trust was set up by Harley’s Parents Katherine and Jamie Staples, in 2009 after he lost his battle with a rare form of leukaemia called B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia Burkitt type just 9 months after he was diagnosed. Harley was just 8 years old.
The event was a casual evening with drinks and canapes provided by ‘Rutland Gourmet’ and live music from local artist ‘Matt Bankhurst’. We held a raffle and auction using a wide variety of incredibly generous donations from both local and national businesses such as designer purses, bags, jewellery, framed prints and paintings along with food and drink vouchers.
We were delighted to raise £5,833 on the night, and to add to that St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation donated a further £5,000, making the total a staggering 10,833.
We would all like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made this evening possible.
The Harley Staples Cancer Trust rely on the support of events such as ours and individual donations. If you would like to help this wonderful charity or find out more, contact Katherine Staples: http://www.harleystaples.co.uk/
